TONIGHT AT CITY HALL
Austin Mayor Steve Adler will deliver the 2018 State of the City Address at 6PM. Limited to two terms, Mayor Adler announced his bid for re-election last month. He is the first Austin mayor under the city’s new 10-1 council system (featuring 10 council members each elected by their district and an elected at-large mayor). Thus far he has drawn one challenger, former Austin Council Member Laura Morrison.
Only two months into 2018 the Austin Council has already made waves with its passage of a paid sick leave ordinance. Texas Representative Paul Workman (R-Austin) has already vowed to overturn the ordinance in the 86th legislative session, commencing January 8, 2019.
Among other matters, state preemption to be discussed, as well as, affordable housing, a call for workforce development and similar initiatives to tackle Austin's wide economic disparities.
Will be attending and posting across our channels during and following the speech. Contact us here for updates and analysis.
