Austin Mayor Steve Adler announces "Stay Home – Work Safe" order
Austin Mayor Steve Adler has announced a "Stay Home – Work Safe" order to limit social interactions to contain the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The City of Austin has denoted 25 essential services and activities, which is greater than the 13 essential critical infrastructure workers outlined by the Department of Homeland Security. Of note, the restaurant industry will continue drive-though and take out services, following the earlier decision to close all dining rooms. Overall, the City of Austin’s policy is comparable to those enacted in Dallas, which passed their order on Sunday, and Houston, which passed their order on the same day as Austin.
During the Q&A portion of the conference, Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt called for more direction from the state and federal government to form a unified response to the crisis.
This Austin order follows Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday who asserted that he will not implement a statewide shelter-in-place order, but rather rely on cities to make targeted decisions.
